Will You Run Out of Super Funds During Retirement?

A study has found that the number of retirees who still possess superannuation funds at the end of their life has been grossly overestimated.

​The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) found that only 20% of Australian’s over 60 were still holding superannuation funds.

More specifically 80% of Australians over 60 had no superannuation funds whatsoever four years prior to their death. Of those over age 80, 90% had no superannuation funds in the four years prior to their death.

Of the 2.7 million Australians over 70, 1.7 million held no superannuation and the rest had a median balance between $100,000 and $149,000.
