If you pay for your insurances through your superannuation account, you may get a text or email that mentions a name you’re unfamiliar with. We’ve put together a list of some of the alternative names a superannuation alert might show, to help you identify what these communications are about. These are the Trustee, Fund, and Insurer’s names for some of the more popular retail insurance funds: Acenda The Trustee (Policy Owner): Equity Trustees Superannuation Limited (ETSL) The Fund (Who requests your premiums): Smart Future Trust The Insurer: Nippon Life Insurance AIA The Trustee (Policy Owner): Equity Trustees Superannuation Limited (ETSL) The Fund (Who requests your premiums): Smart Future Trust The Insurer: AIA Australia Limited TAL The Trustee (Policy Owner): Mercer Superannuation The Fund (Who requests your premiums): TAL Super The Insurer: TAL Life Limited Resolution Life The Trustee (Policy Owner): Equity Trustees Superannuation Limited (ETSL) The Fund (Who requests your premiums): Smart Future Trust The Insurer: Nippon Life Insurance Zurich The Trustee (Policy Owner): Equity Trustees Superannuation Limited (ETSL) The Fund (Who requests your premiums): Smart Future Trust The Insurer: Zurich Financial Services Australia Clearview The Trustee (Policy Owner): HTFS Nominees Pty Limited The Fund (Who requests your premiums): HUB24 Super Fund The Insurer: ClearView Life Assurance Limited Why do I get this? If you look at your certificate of currency, you may notice that you are usually not the listed owner of your inside super policies. Instead a trustee will be listed, and you will be the life insured. Simply put, the insurer's trustee “owns” your policy. Any premiums or claim payments must be made directly to them. For example, Elena is insured with Acenda and owns her policy through super. Therefore she is listed as the life insured, and Equity Trustees Superannuation Limited (ETSL) is listed as the policy owner. When Elena pays her premiums, the insurer requests them and the policy owner (ETSL) pays them. ETSL arranges for the premium to be deducted from your super and pays it to Acenda on your behalf. Elena would have likely received a letter or other correspondence from both her super fund and her insurer notifying her that a rollover would be taking place. The correspondence from Acenda would look something like this: Let’s say that after a few years, Elena injures herself and makes a Total and Permanent Disability claim. Even after Acenda accesses that she meets their criteria, the Trustee will need to approve the claim prior to any benefit being paid. The claim payment will then be made to the trustee, who will transfer it to your superannuation fund.
If you see correspondence from your fund or insurer that you are unsure about, be sure to contact your financial adviser or your fund for further clarification. Comments are closed.
