We’ve complied some of the most common misconceptions about financial advisers and the value they can provide. 1. "Financial advisers are only for rich people.” While some financial advisers focus on servicing individuals with large portfolios, many advisers cater to those at different stages in their lives and financial journeys. Here at Evergreen, our advisers meet with people of all backgrounds and portfolios, whether that’s setting up income protection for a young professional at the beginning of their career, or a retiree transitioning out of the work force. 2. "Once I see an adviser, I'm locked into an ongoing relationship.” Some of the people we help don’t have the need for ongoing financial counselling or reviews. Sometimes they simply require ad-hoc advice when their circumstances change. We offer a “fee-for-service” model which allows you flexibility and doesn’t lock you into an ongoing agreement. 3. "I'll lose control of my money.” Our goal is to empower your financial freedom, not restrict it. Our advisers tailor your recommendations to your specific financial goals, weighing these against your risk profile and current legislation, fund rules, and potential impacts. But ultimately, our adviser’s recommendations are just that. A recommendation. Our administration team also works closely with both yourself and your adviser to ensure that agreed upon recommendations are implemented according to your wishes and that you are informed of how to view and access your products once completed. 4. "If I don't have much money, there's no point.” Seeing a financial adviser is less to do with what you have now, and more to do with how you can harness that to work for future you. Getting financial advice early ensures you are on the right path. 5. "I can just Google or use ChatGPT for everything I need.” Google and AI chatbots are great tools to get a basic understanding of financial concepts and to maybe nudge you in the right direction. Unfortunately, these resources don’t have any awareness of your personal situation, making advice unreliable and sometimes detrimental to your goals. There is no substitute for talking to an adviser who understands your situation, your goals, and how to get help you achieve them.
